What's Next for Curioddities: 2025

VANITAS: A still life artwork which includes various symbolic objects designed to remind the viewer of their mortality and of the futility of worldly goods and pleasures.

 

Themes: Life & Death, Vanitas, Still life, Fantasy, Esoteric, Nature, Alternative Materials, etc.

 

 

No Entry Fees - A Community Collaboration

The Curioddities Art Show is a community collaboration, proudly hosted by the Brimstone Historical Society and Sulphur Parks & Recreation. There are no fees for entering, displaying, or selling artworks in this exhibition.


The Henning Cultural Center, nestled in the heart of Sulphur, Louisiana, is ready to extend an Open Call for Artists for its 5th annual Curioddities Art Show. This event celebrates creativity and imagination, inviting artists of all ages to submit their artwork for consideration under the theme of "Vanitas."

Open Call Begins: November 7th
Deadline to submit work online: December 16th

Drop-off period: December 9th-21st

Final day to bring work: December 21st
(in-person only; no mail-in works accepted)


Opening Reception: January 9th, 2025

The Henning Cultural Center is a community resource and available to help anyone interested in exhibiting. There is no age limit or experience required to enter this gallery show.

The following will be needed (via the Google Form)

For each art piece, we will need the following:

 

  • A photo or digital file of the work or works-in-progress
  • Title
  • Medium
  • Price (or NFS)
  • Size

 

Please note, all artwork pickups and drop offs are the responsibility of the artist. The Brimstone Historical Society and SPAR are not responsible for artworks left over 30 days past the closing date of the exhibit. Please do your best to retrieve your works in a timely manner, at your convenience.

 

Framing guidelines:

Mats preferred (though not required.) All canvas pieces for this show must be framed. If you require assistance with purchasing frames, please select that option in the Google Form. Exact sizing for works is needed if we will be providing framing for you. Poster frames will not be allowed for this show.

 

All works must have a wire attached to the back. Saw-tooth hangers may not be acceptable for some works depending on weight. If you require help installing a wire, please let us know.

Content Guidelines:

We are a family-friendly gallery. Each work will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and some concessions can be made, but submissions with the following will be scrutinized before acceptance:

  • Offensive imagery
  • Explicit language/titles
  • Violence, blood, gore
  • Gratuitous nudity/Sexual themes
